Wild boars are causing significant damage to hay meadows around Seewen and on the Urmiberg mountain in the canton of Schwyz. For some farmers, this is already the sixth time their fields have been ravaged by the animals. A sounder of wild boars has repeatedly plowed up meadows, severely impacting agriculture.

According to observations, the animals have been appearing more frequently in the Rigi area since a group crossed Lake Küssnacht in the winter of 2024/2025. Due to the ongoing damage, authorities and hunters now intend to regulate the wild boar population. The canton of Schwyz has planned measures within the framework of the official hunting seasons to control the population and prevent further damage.
