Remo Müller is proving with his innovative organic vineyard on the slopes of Rigi that viticulture at higher altitudes offers a forward-looking perspective. Despite initial regulatory resistance, the pioneer now successfully farms 8,000 square metres of vineyard area at 700 metres above sea level. Through the consistent choice of fungus-resistant Piwi varieties and close-to-nature management, he succeeds in reducing plant protection to a minimum despite climate change. The cooler nights and the special location on the mountain favour high grape quality with a balanced acidity ratio. Müller also places a strong emphasis on biodiversity and local marketing to underline the value of his regional organic wines. His success is now also inspiring other farmers in the region to venture into viticulture.
