Due to the persistently high risk of forest fires, numerous trips on the historic Rigi steam railway have been canceled. The cancellations affect departures from both Vitznau and Arth-Goldau.
These cancellations include trips with the world's only operational cogwheel steam locomotive, Lok 7, which normally runs only a few days a year. These unique journeys offer travelers the opportunity to experience the impressive mountain scenery of the Rigi in a historic way. The special "basket experience," where passengers sit directly next to the steam locomotive, is also affected by the current cancellations. The organization RIGI HISTORIC (https://www.rigihistoric.ch/) is dedicated to preserving the valuable historic vehicles of Rigi Bahnen AG.
Currently, trips are possible from September 6th with Lok 16 and from October 3rd with Lok 7.
Guests can look forward to the resumption of these special steam train journeys as soon as the risk of forest fires has subsided.
