Due to the increased risk of forest fires, a fire ban is in effect in the Canton of Lucerne, including regions such as Mount Rigi, for forests and their immediate vicinity (within a 50-meter radius). Most forest fires are caused by human error, such as discarded cigarettes or incompletely extinguished barbecues. Although barbecuing with gas or in permanent fire pits is permitted at a sufficient distance from the forest, August 1st bonfires, disposable barbecues, fireworks, sky lanterns, and hot air balloons are prohibited throughout the canton. Open fires should be avoided altogether in strong winds, even with charcoal grills, provided a safe distance is maintained. The public is strongly urged to observe these regulations to prevent fires and protect nature. The Department of Agriculture and Forestry (lawa) is available to answer any questions.
