Due to ongoing drought and an increased risk of forest fires, a total fire ban remains in effect in and around the forests of the Canton of Lucerne. For the upcoming Swiss National Day on August 1st, fireworks, bonfires, and sky lanterns are prohibited throughout the canton. The ban also applies to popular tourist destinations such as Mount Rigi, where nature is particularly vulnerable and requires protection. While disposable barbecues are also prohibited, gas grills and permanent fire pits may be used at least 50 meters from the forest. Wood-burning appliances such as pizza ovens are also permitted under strict conditions. These measures aim to prevent forest fires, which are mostly caused by human error. In addition to the fire bans, citizens are urged to use drinking water sparingly due to low groundwater levels. The authorities appeal to the public to observe the regulations in order to protect the environment and minimize risks.
