The Lucerne cantonal government has approved the corridor for the new Rigi cable car from Weggis to Rigi Kaltbad for the second time. A previous approval from 2024 was overturned by the cantonal court in 2025 due to a missing statement from the forestry authority. This deficiency has now been rectified, and the project has been declared compliant with the forest law, allowing the Rigi Bahnen AG project to proceed. The over 50-year-old aerial tramway is scheduled to be replaced by a gondola lift by summer 2028, which is expected to enhance the Rigi's appeal as a tourist destination.
