The 65th Annual General Meeting of Obergschwend – Rigi-Burggeist AG provided an update on the planned complete renovation of the cable car. Since the last AGM, significant milestones have been reached, including the approval of a specific transaction with 70.2% of the votes cast and the signing of a works contract with Von Rotz Seilbahnen AG on March 18, 2026. The Board of Directors is confident that Von Rotz Seilbahnen is a competent partner for the implementation of the renovation project, whose concept has already impressed external specialists.
Intensive planning work is currently underway for the detailed execution, which includes 3D models, cable and structural calculations, as well as ticketing and color schemes. This work is scheduled for completion by November 2026. The building permit process proceeded smoothly; after the submission of specific documents regarding forest boundaries and fire safety, the building permit was granted by the Gersau District on June 23, 2026. The schedule calls for preparatory work in autumn 2026, while the old Rigi cable car will have its last day of operation on Easter Monday, March 29, 2027. Dismantling and renovation will begin immediately afterward, with the aim of opening the new Obergschwend – Rigi-Burggeist aerial tramway at the start of the 2027 summer holidays.
