The Rigi Railways are announcing upcoming track closures on the Vitznau-Rigi Railway (VRB) cogwheel line due to essential maintenance work.
Planned work includes replacing the rails near "Haus Erika" and neutralizing the track between Kaltbad and Staffelhöhe. The rail replacement work near "Haus Erika" will take place in calendar weeks 34 (August 17-22, 2026) and 35 (August 24-29, 2026), replacing 507 meters of old rails.
The track neutralization between Kaltbad and Staffelhöhe, which ensures track stability, is scheduled for calendar weeks 40 (September 28-October 3, 2026) and 41 (October 5-10, 2026). As part of this project, a level crossing below Staffelhöhe station will also be renovated.
All major work will be carried out at night, resulting in complete closures of the affected sections of track and preventing any train traffic. Residents along the Rigi cog railway line should expect temporary noise and light pollution during the night work. Additionally, the level crossing at Staffelhöhe will be temporarily impassable for pedestrians and vehicles.
The line will be closed at night from 11:20 p.m. to 6:35 a.m. during these weeks.
