The Canton of Lucerne and the municipality of Vitznau are inviting visitors to an exciting site visit on 17 October 2026. The focus is on the construction of a new debris basin, which will ensure improved flood protection for the region. As Vitznau and the estates on the southern slopes of the Rigi are particularly vulnerable to natural hazards such as debris flows, this project is of great importance. Interested parties can gain direct insight into the ongoing work during guided tours between 10:00 and 14:00. At seven information stations, experts will explain the technical details and safety precautions. Construction work on the Altdorfbach stream, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the Hinterbergen cable car, is expected to be completed by 2028. Free refreshments will be provided for visitors. Travelling by public transport is recommended due to the limited parking capacity.
