The historical steam locomotive No. 7, a true showpiece of Rigi's history, is leaving its usual exhibition space on Rigi Kulm for its annual experience trips. Designed in 1873 by mountain railway pioneer Niklaus Riggenbach, the locomotive is the world's only operable rack-and-pinion steam locomotive with a vertical boiler. Following careful preparation by Rigi Bahnen specialists, the historic vehicle is steaming once again on the steep route between Goldau and the summit. Interested guests have the unique opportunity to take part in an approximately 90-minute journey on five days in October. The locomotive, which only narrowly escaped being scrapped in 1937, has been elaborately restored and has been enriching the scenery of the Rigi once again since 2020. Following the operations, the locomotive will return to its engine shed on the mountain, where it can be admired in a freely accessible exhibition.
